I’ve had this platform a little over two years but haven’t used it the way I intended. Frankly, I haven’t used it much at all. Let’s just be real, starting a new business isn’t for the weary. I went into a new season inmy professional life in 2021 with many ideas, but when it came down to it, I had to learn how to be a CEO. Sure, I was a #badass leadership coach, development expert, and HR pro, but I’d never started a new business and didn’t know anything about marketing, accounting (thank goodness), contracts, etc. so I needed to reel it in and focus on being a business owner. That mean I also had to set better boundaries around what to do now, next week, next month, next year, and in some cases, never. 🙅🏻♀️
After 3.5 years of learning to be a CEO, I’m so excited that my business is in a place that I’m able to bring this blog back. 💫 Interestingly though, it isn’t at all what I initially thought it would be. I originally expected it would be a people leadership blog only where I’d share talent management and leadership knowledge and tips to help frontline leaders to improve their effectiveness, but almost four years later I realize, while that’s important and something I will continue to do through my business business blog, this space is for @CoachWendyGlass, The WOMEN’S Leadership Coach to share knowledge and coaching for women leaders! My heart is on fire 🔥 for creating a place for women to connect, learn, and grow and I’m officially declaring this space as the exclusive Power of Her blog.
So why the change? In 2021 I knew what I wanted to do, but I also needed to start making money, and frankly I was apprehensive about promoting to a specific demographic. I was told by numerous “subject matter experts” to niche down to a specific group of leaders that I serve, but the truth is I was scared to do that. I walked away from a 6-figure salary and needed to replace it, so I started promoting Ignite Leadership + HR Consulting Group. I casted wide nets and had some wins that allowed me to keep going, but I also had a lot of opinions from others about what I ‘should’ do. The most common was that I ought to focus on HR consulting, so I pivoted my marketing slightly to align with other people’s opinions. The result, I was frustrated and started applying for jobs.
A little over a year ago, I did some personal work to gain clarity on exactly what I wanted and why. I dug into what brings me happiness, what energizes me, 💃🏻 and where I find the most joy in my work (aka, my purpose). Through that self-discovery I knew I had to niche down. I knew that I had to be brave enough to admit out loud that I wanted to work with women leaders and help them elevate their performance and their careers, regardless of what other people thought I should be doing.
Through the encouragement of my husband, exactly 13 months ago I shared my personal leadership story with a room full of women leaders and that experience solidified I was on the right path, and since that moment I’ve refused to be anyone other than unapologeticaly me because I know that my journey, knowledge, and lessons learned can be a catalyst for other women to declare what they want in their professional lives and I’m committed to helping other women silence the noise and falst beliefs that hold them back and develop the essential leadership skills to elevate their careers.
What might that mean for my followers? MORE opportunities for women leaders. On the horizon are:
💻 Digital courses focused on specific skills (communication, influencing, employee engagement, feedback and coaching, etc.)
🧰 Leadership Master Academy
👩🏻💼🧑🏽💼👩🏼💼 Power of Her Peer Advisory Councils
These opportunities will run parallel with the work I do with companies to develop their future talent pipelines through speaking engagements, indivdidual and team coaching, and leadership development programs, but these 👆🏼 will be reserved for the women leaders.
I hope you’ll stay with me and invite the other powHERful women leaders in your network to join us on this journey of becoming unstoppable too!🚀
XOXO,
Wendy
